Vista thumbnail is not updating
I'd hate to have to wipe and reinstall on this machine for such a minor annoyance.
Thumbnail generation is initiated by explorer.exe, but applications can register themselves to create the thumbnail.
Please note that the “Always show icons, never thumbnails” option in folder options is not checked.
I've taken a screenshot demonstrating the problem, here: Sometimes, a few image thumbnails will show up correctly, maybe about one in ten, with the rest failing as well.
Merged it into the registry and, lo and behold, I have thumbnails again. As an aside, while I was trying to fix this, I also picked up a codec pack called the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) and noticed while running through its settings that it had an option to "fix perceived types." I wish I'd known this last week when I fixed THAT problem with missing Media Center Thumbnails. An application simply has to implement a COM object. For instance, when you are installing the Combined Community Codec Pack you have the option of letting Haali (I believe this is the component) of taking over generation of thumbnails for video files. You'll see the thumbnail immediately in the context menu.System Requirements: * Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7/2012/8/8.1 32/64-bit * About 5 Mb of disk space additional space for cache Shorten your search for reliable and trusted information about smartphones and other wireless technologies by heading over to Phone
